New Years Ideas
updated: Dec 26, 2010, 12:39 PM

Does anyone have good ideas for a young adult of what to do for New Years? You know, besides party hardy in IV?

How about a ski trip? or are you just talking local?

We didn't go last year, but I think downtown is typically hopping with the spectrum from teens to lively elders. Some places have that mix, and most seem to specialize on a specific age and "type" of patrons, with lots of people on the street or sampling spots. Relatively safe with lots of low key police presence and taxis (does the trolley run late too?), and a generally festive air.

Too bad that "the Door" is not open for the youth. An alcohol free environment would be great for the young people to dance and have fun. Perhaps some church groups could sponsor some activities for the young adults.

When I was young, Isla Vista would be the place I would go. I don't see what's wrong with that.

It depends on how young the young adult is. Over 21 makes it easier since there are a lot of things going on in town that you can do when you're legal.

I went to IV when I was young, too. I realize it's not for everyone, but it's all about what you want to be doing, not so much drinking if you don't want to.

If you can't find anything to do out there, why not have a party at home?

Julian...not everyone wants to get that blitzed and crazy.

Boogie boarding at the Mission? If the grass is already ruined, why not?

How about inviting your friends over for a pot luck, and play cranium, or watch great old movies, or really bad funny movies.

Julian/192: It's not just about getting blitzed. I wouldn't mind getting blitzed, but I sure as hell wouldn't go to IV to do so. I've only been there a few times, house sitting on the outskirts - I have no inclination to go any further into IV than that. Getting drunk, molested, and having my belongings stolen or destroyed just doesn't appeal to me. And yes, I know there's more to IV than that. But that's how I (and a number of other people) view it. So, no thanks.

I say get a few friends together & do whatever appeals to you - go downtown, bowling at Zodos, hang at home, whatever.

Get together with your friends and make goal/dream boards for 2011, followed by some dancing to your favorite tunes at midnight.

I think Zodo's is open 24/7. Like any respectable bowling alley. I may be wrong. Use Google and get their phone number and call and ask.
