@ 128874 - I'm all for supporting local stores IF they're competitive. Just Play Music, Warbler, they're not even close to competitive. So, why should I pay an extra $5 -7+ dollars on a CD? Sorry, but I don't have the luxury to just give my money away to support companies to stay in business. If businesses can't be competitive, what's the point of being in business? With that, my vote is for Amazon, free shipping over $25 bucks.

I pay 6.99 for classic rock CD's Amazon Rules. Plus you can get just about anything your looking for.

Despite what some may think, CDs are still alive and kicking for those with acute hearing and good stereo systems. And vinyl is, too. MP3s are too compressed and sound pretty bad in comparison. If iTunes would sell much higher bitrate files (beyond the rates they have now) then downloading might be okay. I personally hate listening to those tinny and compressed files. However, apparently most people can't tell the difference: link

I can't REALLY tell the difference but then again my library is in 320kbps MP3. too bad very few if any PMPs and no car audio systems support FLAC or I would use it despite the huge file sizes.

Half dot com for anything older, and there are sellers there with new CDs fairly cheap as well, but usually close to the same price as Amazon.
Like 128933P, I prefer to have a better copy than the crap from iTunes and the alternatives and all my rips are FLAC. My Samsung P3 plays FLAC no problem.

do people know its a Marshal's ( discount type store) that is supposed to fill that spot.....not that I don't like Marshal's but right on State is very tacky and truly brings down the area.......landlords just want their $ I suppose

why should you support local stores over an internet business? Duh. 1. Because local stores employ local people. The fewer the stores, the fewer opportunities for your family and friends to work and live here. 2. Because a portion of the sales tax generated in Santa Barbara City and County comes back to SB City and County to do good things for our community. 3. Because it's ethically unsound to scope out a product in a brick and mortar store and buy it online for cheaper. Unless you want your shopping experience in the future to be exclusively an online experience. You can sure pick out kitchen faucets online now, can't you? I bet you're also a big discount store fan. Enjoy keeping those Chinese manufacturers in business,

If you think Marshalls is bad for the area, then wait until they are in to comment. I predict it will be jam packed, and unlike borders, people will be buying things and not just loitering in and out ofthe store. The demand will just prove what Santa Barbara needs.

Buy them directly from the many local musicians, or from their websites, or from CDBaby.com

I'm old-fashioned, I guess -- but I sure prefer to browse through CD's and books, holding them in my hands, really get to have a look and a glimpse of what's inside as well --

Support local shops! Warbler is a great record/cd shop with a solid selection of cds and loads of vinyl -- and their prices are right on target with amazon -- the shop is not full of cd's with crazy high prices. Plus, they know their music and will happily order stuff for you. Go local!
