Ann Kale Associates has done many well known projects around the country, in addition to local designs such as the Canary Hotel and the lighting of the remodeled Courthouse clock tower.

While a good electrician will have plenty of experience installing lighting, and will be happy to offer their opinion on design, if you want to ensure the best outcome for your project you should really consider using a professional Lighting Designer for the design/specification, and a qualified electrician for the installation.

Using a professional lighting designer ensures you will have beautiful, functional, cost effective and energy efficient lighting. With the advent of LED lighting and Title 24 California energy codes, this balance is not always easily achieved…. as many high efficiency products come with a high cost or inherent functional compromises. (i.e. CFL's may not be dimmable or have poor color quality. LED's may be expensive, have low output, and poor color) Since lighting has entered the electronic age (i.e. LED) the technology is changing faster than ever and only a professional lighting designer will ensure you are using the best and most cost effective products.

My company, Synergy Lighting Design, has a mobile lighting display that allows our clients to view the latest technologies before making a purchase decision. We also specialize in budget conscious projects and can often help you save money vs purchasing light fixtures locally. If your project is a retrofit and no detailed plans or drawings are required, our fee would likely be a small portion of the overall project. We have several licensed electricians that we work with and recommend, depending on the scale of the project. Please fell free to contact me if you have any questions, or if you would like to schedule a complimentary consultation. Rob Jenneve Synergy Lighting Design 805-448-2672 info@synergylight.com

Illuminations Chandelier & Electrical (527 Fig Avenue, 892-2404) has been a great help to us. Very thoughtful in their design comments and prices are reasonable.

Highly recommend John Maloney, founder and principal of JMPE Electrical Engineering and LIghting Design, in SB since 1994 at 156 W. Alamar St. His website is jmpe dot net. He and his staff are so professional and very creative--and integrate the latest technology with beautiful fixtures.

I would recommend Tom Ochsner Architect as a first consult. He will be able to determine local codes and provide direction to design & permits.

I've seen the work that Insight Electric Company does and they've worked on my home as well. They helped design the lighting and installed all of the electrical in a clean professional manner. It all looks beautiful.

I'll second 999P's recommendation for Insight Electric Co. Mark and his crew know their stuff- you won't be disappointed. I owe no favors to anyone, but can speak from firsthand knowledge about their work as I've hired them numerous times on various projects.
