The Marbled Godwit

I've always thought that the birds pictured here were known only as "sandpipers". A little research indicates that they're more accurately referred to as marbled godwits (limosa fedoa).
I happened upon a flock of them during a feeding frenzy along a Carpinteria beach recently. They were devouring tiny sand crabs en masse. It impressed me how many crabs that they could locate, pull to the surface and eat. After about 5 minutes, they scurried off to find another hot bed of the tiny morsels.
A better use of the term "Drill, baby, drill" came to mind while watching them feast.
For those interested, more on the bird can be found at: this link
For the photo folks out there, I used a 500mm lens, f/6.3, 1/2000 sec with an ISO of 400.
