Dog Training

I'd like opinions on local (group) dog training classes. I have a new 3.5 month old puppy.

Dioji has an excellent puppy class and their trainer is great. There is a lot of focus on socialization which is the most important part of puppy training. Good luck!

I really like K-9 pals. We adopted a puppy from them and then took their puppy training classes and they were really helpful.

We've taken our Aussie to two series of puppy classes. We started with Andrea (Google for "Andrea dog training santa barbara") and then went to another class that Wency taught. It was a good order. Andrea focused a LOT on socialization with lots of play time which was great. Wency is more structured with less play time. Worked great for us. We just finished a 3rd class, a non-puppy obedience class, put on by Janet at the Santa Barbara Flyers.

Perfect Puppy Academy at Lemos in Goleta is great. We have put all four of our dogs through when they were puppies. www.perfectpuppyacademy.com

Perfect Puppy Academy gets my vote. Lot's of socialization and positive reinforcement. I've taken classes from Anne Swan and she was great. Best of luck with the new pup!

California School for Dogs is wonderful; owner Susan Dalton is great with the dogs and knows how to train with positive reinforcement

Have used a variety of sources for puppy training in all my years in SB and with family dogs. My next puppy will start with Camp Canine.

Loose Pooch Dog club at Mission and State. The owner Nathan Woods runs SB Pet services too. He doesn't do classes but his one-on-one lessons are amazing. I have fun with my well behaved dog now thanks to Nathan!

I took my puppy to Wency last spring - I thought it was great! I had heard that some people think she's a little too hard on the puppies, but I didn't see that. Then I followed up with a non-puppy one put on by the city this fall which happened to only have 4 dogs in the class, so there was a lot of 1-on-1 attention.

PPA ( Perfect Puppy Academy ) trainer Anne Swan has been a hugh help to me and my family and 5 dogs to be exact, one in the past and 4 that I have now. I highly recommend her because she knows how to train the puppy and assist the owners with a caring hand. She does not believe in harsh training... and it works!

PPA is a great choice. But I'd make sure it's Anne Swan that is teaching the course. We took this a few years back and there was a very nice gentleman who taught the class. Too nice.....it wasn't a very organized or informative class and Anne's way of teaching is much more focused and effective. Wency is great, but her methods are very much based in older alpha dog theory. Great for REAL alphas, though, which are rare.
