Thanksgiving with the Family
updated: Nov 20, 2010, 9:45 AM

Dear Edda,

Last Thanksgiving, my sister-in-law invited our family for the holiday. She lives in Iowa, so we went a couple of days before. When we got there, she told me she was very nervous because our in-laws were coming to dinner (our husbands are brothers), so she had to go to the spa for a massage to calm down. Then she asked me to "do a few things" to get started on the meal. Well, it ends up that she spent the entire day before Thanksgiving at the spa with her friend, and came home "relaxed" and tipsy, and went to bed. Meanwhile, my husband, kids and I cleaned her whole house and prepared almost the entire meal. Her husband was at the golf course.

During Thanksgiving dinner, she mentioned to our mother-in-law how tired she was from all the work she had done. She even said that it was extra difficult having houseguests! I was so angry I couldn't eat, and my mother-in-law said I was rude to let all that hard work go to waste. My husband didn't say anything.

This year it's my turn for Thanksgiving dinner, and I just don't know what to do.

Signed,

Still Steaming

Dear Still Steaming,

Well, some people serve ham, but turkey is the traditional choice.

Edda
