I remember hearing about their closing sale quite awhile ago.. at least six months plus.

I remember when they had a gorgeous retail store in the 1000 block of State Street. (K. Frank is in the space now).

Most of their cabinetry was made with Pine. No particle board at PJ Milligans!

Then, they closed the retail store; saying that they had manufacturing facilities elsewhere in town and they would show their wares there. That was many many years ago.

I lost track of them. I don't recall when they shut down the manufacturing. I was actually surprised to read that.

ditto 119252 about manufacturing elsewhere which they mentioned when we asked about it. Seem like about 3-4 years ago that they were leaving State St.

The furniture was unique but prohibitively priced. Constructed out of cheap pine wood furniture it was collected in very poor condition from houses and cottages in the UK. Falling apart these items were skilfully restored by Mulligan and his equally talented staff. Many houses in this town are lucky to be able to display this beautiful custom made furniture.

I will gladly answer this.....we simply retired....our company is over 100 yrs old...our Great Grandfather Patrick Milligan started in Sligo Ireland and the younger generation brought it to SB 20 yrs ago.......for the record we never used cheap wood...never.......the furniture our GF made is still alive and well....I own some of it....thanks for many wonderful years in SB....Patrick lives in Indonesia.... I live in Sicily.....some of the family are still local.

We own several pieces of Milligan's furniture, and still love them all, after 10-20 years. And as Connie said, no old wood, good solid pine! Miss the business as well as the furniture, great to patronize a local small manufacturer.

Likewise, I was sad to see them go . . . it must have been in some part due to the recession, but maybe that also dovetailed into retirement plans. I did business with them and they did with me at Montecito Sports. Indonesia and Italy? How exotic and romantic. Good on you.

Sometimes you can find PJ Milligan furniture on craigslist. I have a great dining room table I bought at SB Consignment after I lost my house and many PJ Milligan pieces in the Tea Fire. Makes me happy to have this one piece now. Great furniture. Glad you're retired happily.

Thanks everyone - I don't get the Newspress, so I missed the notice of them closing! I also have several pieces of their furniture, and yes, it's solidly built! I have a large dining table and get up on it to water plants I have up high.

I was asking after them because I am looking for another piece of furniture, thought - ah! PJ Milligan will have it! Now I'm stuck again! So sorry to hear they are no longer in business. Guess I'll have to prowl CL for available pieces from now on.

Happy retirement!

Dear PJ Milligan, I didn't know you were gone either! Rats! Almost all my furniture was done by you and I have several pieces that need some repair. Where should I go? Also, who else could do that beautiful, waxy white finish, with so much depth, as you did. Phooey!

Connie, since I love to vacation in Italy, I would love to have the website address or email address for your B & B / cooking school for future reference.

I have a PJ Milligan bedroom set - frame, side table with 2 drawers, dresser with 5 drawers and a lingerie dresser that I sadly need to part with. Just doesn't fit in our newly remodeled house. It's in great condition. Anyone know someone who might be interested?
