I am a 42 year Democrat who voted a straight Republican ticket this time: Watson, Stoker, Fiorina and Whitman. The Democratic Party became a tool of the public employee unions and has to be stopped.

I voted against all Democratic Party endorsements for non-partisan offices like school boards and City College. We have to get the public employee unions off school boards because they have ruined public education in California.

This was not an anti-incumbent vote. It was an anti-public employee union vote. I urge anyone who has still not voted to reject all endorsements by the Democratic Party and the public employee unions because they are driven by power, greed and selfishness only and have sold our children's future and left us with bills now long overdue with no money to pay for all their benefits they took for themselves.

Please vote for the SBCC board of trustees challengers. They will reach out to the community, question the president, be inclusive in their decisions, and bring out the best in SBCC.

hey - has anyone seen any partisan poll watchers lurking about their precinct? KEYT said that people were planning to do that in San Luis because they decided that the other party would be plotting to vote illegally, but I would think they'd be bored to tears.

BTW, regarding the unions - does everyone realize that nearly all university and K-12 staff *are not* in the social security system. Their pensions are not a fat bonus, they replace social security. Short term staff such as lecturers have it worse because they both don't receive social security credits, and also aren't vested in Calpers. If you have a normal job and then go to teach for 10 years when you are 50, they will cut your social security benefits that you otherwise would get. I think it's only people who retire after 25 yrs as a police officer or teacher who get these $4000 checks. Maybe they should switch the system back

A vote for the republican ticket is a vote for inaction and gridlock. The congressional republicans have blocked anything and everything regardless of merit. So sad.

My 15yr old son asked why we have the 2 party system.

Why the politicians don't stand on their own decisions?

Just tell us what they believe, then do what they say?

I laughed, because he naively gets how its "is" supposed to work.

I also urge you to vote for the challengers for SBCC Trustees. Today we have the opportunity to elect qualified people, with varied experiences in areas the college needs, especially now. They will do more than "rubber stamp" the decisions made by this new president. They will ask questions and become informed before they vote. That's what I want for SBCC. Vote: HASLUND, CRONINGER, BLUM, MACKER!

I am voting straight Republican, and I am an Independent woman. The conservatives are a whole lot more appealing in this round, and they put up women candidates they support. The Dems tear their women apart (Clinton, Jordan). Dems don't support women.

Why do people want a new SBCC board? One reason is that they have charge of the new president and new administration. The board hires - and evaluates - the president. The board manages the president who then sets up when and how often the Vice Presidents get evaluated (the Adult Ed VP hasn't been evaluated yet which is way longer than supposed to be).

When the board, who hired the new president, gave a great evaluation to her last Spring, that's when so many faculty, administrators, staff and adult students got discouraged and upset that their pleas about her not listening, being autocratic, not trustworthy, devious, were not paid attention to. That's why there are so many community members who are hopeful about the challengers. Please vote for any or all of the New challengers for the SBCC board: Blum, Croninger, Haslund, Macker. Thanks....

I think it is terrible all the long term adult ed jewelry and ceramic students can't use the Wake and Schott labs after hours and on weekends like they used to for free to make stuff to sell at the art shows.

How else can they make a living when it is so expensive to live here. Closing classes this summer about killed them. Bring back the free use of adult ed ceramics and jewelry labs on nights and weekends so they can keep their costs down and give them back their right to make a living in this town. State needs to support artists.

Das is Mas! We do not need the joker, Mike Stoker, anywhere near our government. Brown is going to take down Smeg to Chinatown and all around. Boxer is going to knock out Gnarley Carly as well.

After reading all the back and forth I'm more confused than before! Who is going to make our State better? Who is going to make it harder to take advantage of the systems in place meant to help the truly impoverished? Who is going to make sure that our kids are getting the best education rather than back unions that protect teachers no matter how crappy they are? Who is going to help with overcrowded jails? Who is going to help create more jobs? Who supports equality and wants to prioritize it? Hmmm...what else do I care about? Let me think...

117915: They had that? No wonder the school ran out of money. Christ, and this whole time I thought is was because of the leaders... Now I know it's people using resources for free, then turning around & selling what they make. Ever think to buy your own supplies? It's what I do! (I work three jobs, don't go there.)

I voted Brown/Boxer/Capps/All other Dems, and for a few new blood people for SBCC (not Blum. Sorry, you're a no on 19, you lose my vote). I figured I need to equal out all these "I'm a Dem but voted all Republican this time" people. ;)

If anyone believes that it is possible to cut taxes and balance the budget they are living a fantasy. Basic math. Meg Whitman is selling this nonsense. Fiorina shipped jobs to China. Barbara Boxer has been an independent her entire career. Brown is the anti-politician politician. That's how I'm voting.

In January the.US Supreme Court ruled that corporations are entitled to spend unlimited funds in our elections. You;ve just seen the results. However you voted, go to .freespeechforpeople.org to support House Joint Resolution 74. The Constitution guarentees YOUR free speech, which shouldn't be drowned out by million dollar ad campaigns funded by mega corporations.

I never received my ballot in the mail so I went to vote this morning. Lots of people voting, and the helpful workers told me I would have to fill out a Provisional Ballot. They said it would have to verified before it was counted. So unless we have a Willie Chamberlin/Bill Wallace recount, my votes won't matter. It will all be long over.

Ed Show today, re: China

A stewardess called in who had just returned to the U.S. from China. She couldn't wait to call into Ed's show with this news: it seems the Chinese are very anxious about the Dems holding on to Congress, as it would be very bad for their economy.

It is all over the Chinese and Russian news. Foreign countries rely on the Republicans for outsourcing our jobs to their countries.

" He says that, no matter his personal feelings on the issue, he'll uphold the law -- a position he mirrored recently when he appeared at the Chronicle editorial board."

Brown is upholding the law - not allowing personal opinions to dictate what he does, and which is what he is supposed to do.

This election is so depressing. A bunch of loons dressing up as George Washington, shouting inane slogans, have been given a semblance of respectability by Faux (Fox) News, and the masses have bought into it. Bring on Palin in 2012, and we'll see that the Mayan Calendar was right all along.

The official place for SB County election info seems to be sbcvote.com, and the link for results at the bottom of that page will apparently start posting vote counts after 8:05pm

The similar page for the State of CA seems to be vote.sos.ca.gov (while SOS may indeed be emblematic of our state's distress, in this case it has to do with Secretary Of State).
