Recycle Location
updated: Oct 15, 2010, 12:47 PM

Where in SB do I take glass bottles to be recycled and redeem the CA deposit? I have boxes of them and no idea where to take them.

Does Marborg at 132 Nopalitos take bottles? I haven't been there.

A few months ago I went to:
Santa Barbara Iron & Metal
709 E Gutierrez St
(805) 966-4468

But I was recycling brake rotors (metal). I believe they did plastic and glass there too but I'm not sure, that's why I included the phone number here so you can call first. Otherwise sometimes I see a truck next to the Albertson's in Goleta on Calle Real near Fairview. Haven't used them though.

Either place. Marborg near the post office, and SB Iron and Metal. Dealing with glass would be more comfortable at Marborg. Parking is better as well as sepratating your glass, the containers have wheels. I think it's about .10 cents a pound for glass. Have Fun.

I go to the East Gutierrez location but finding a parking place is a problem.

Thanks for your responses.

I have seen the one by Albertsons but thought maybe they just took plastics.
These are all glass beverage bottles--water/wine type. I think they CA deposit is about 10 cents a bottle.

You put them at the curb and let them get picked up with the rest of your recyclables. They help subsidize the costs of recycling the other items without deposits and keep that system working.

The cost of driving to the center is more than you think -- figure on $0.20 per mile as a minimum, the real number is much higher if you include what you paid for your car. The few bucks you get go right into your tank and don't achieve any environmental benefit.

Ralphs on de la Vina has a recycling center open sometimes

Putting them on the curb leaves them legally available for anyone to pick up--not just the recycling service of Marborg/BFI. Keep them nearby on your property if you want to have the city trash recycle them.

Hey I went to see the place over by Albertson's. Pretty cool.
Open 10-430 M-Sat. glass, plastic, cans...neat!

In Noleta and we don't have recycling pickup unless you pay for it.

The Albertson's on Calle Real between Kellogg and Fairview is where I've redeemed some glass and aluminum containers for refund.

Marborg's recycling at David Love Place in Goleta takes all the recyclables as the Eastside location does. Pays for the glass, plastic, aluminum, and all other recylcables can be left in bins (cardboard; office paper comingled with phone books and books;plastic #1, plastics #2-7, metals). Also e waste, latex paint , batteries (ring "gate" bell and fill out form). Monday through Saturday for "gate" bell and redemption for money and Sunday for bins only.

Just a head's up and much to my disappointment, nobody will give you money for wine bottles. Went to 3 different places, Marborg included and they will take them, they just won't give you any money.
