The Village Properties Teacher's Fund
updated: Dec 18, 2010, 8:30 AM
In 2002, after major budget cuts were imposed on local schools, Renee Grubb and Ed Edick
established the Village Properties Teacher's Fund. Renee and Ed wanted to help local Santa Barbara County school
teachers get the supplies, tools, and materials, they desperately needed but could not get due to the budget cuts.
The program, created by Dawn Villone of Echo Media, Inc., the marketing and public relations
firm for Village Properties, was designed to be a simple on going program for the public and private teachers in Santa
Barbara County.
Here is how it works: Teachers complete a user-friendly application located on the Village
Properties website at villagesite.com. The request tells what supplies are needed, and why; which grade they will be
used for, and how many students will benefit. No amount is too small.
Requests must be received by the last day of the month to be considered for the upcoming month's grants. Applications
may be submitted for the current school year from September 1st, 2010 - April 30th, 2011. Any requests received after
April 30th will be reviewed for the next school year during the month of September.
The Teacher's Fund Judges Committee meets the second Thursday of every month to review the
previous month's applications. Notification letters are mailed to all applicants the third week of that same month
telling them the status of their grant.
Once teachers receive notification, they simply purchase the items requested and mail the original receipt to The
Village Properties Teacher's Fund, c/o Lara Castagnola, 4050 Calle Real, Suite 120, Santa Barbara, CA 93110. A check
will be sent out within two weeks of Lara receiving their receipts
If a teacher cannot afford to purchase the items they requested or they need further assistant they can simply call or
email Dawn Villone at dawn@echomediainc.com or 941-373-1742.
Since it's inception the Village Properties Teacher's Fund has donated over $740,000 to 1650
classrooms. Village Properties is able to do this through donations from the community and their agents.
If you would like to donate to the Village Properties Teacher's Fund or if you are a public or
private school teacher in Santa Barbara County just log on to villagesite.com and click on the Teacher's Fund box. No
amount is too small and this year, more than ever, donations are needed. 100% of all donations go directly to the
teachers. You can help Village Properties make a difference in our children's education one classroom at a time.
