After a 4 year hiatus, due to 3 babies, my wife and I are going on a date
tonight. I would like some ideas for a fun restaurant to go to? Perhaps
something with dim lighting, good food, not too pretentious...

It's an easy choice: Beach Side Bar Cafe at Goleta Beach. Nice food and great service, early bird specials until 6 pm, free parking, and the best view of any restaurant in town from indoor or outdoors: the unobstructed beach and the ocean.

The Palace! It has awesome food, service, cocktails, ambience and it is generally a fun and happy place to be! The filet mignon is great as is everything else! And not too many crying babies, because if you are like me, you will be able to eat at ease and not jump everytime you hear a baby crying.

Roy. Good atmosphere, art on the walls, sometimes music. Good food at reasonable prices.

Bouchon is delicious but a little expensive. The Boathouse is pretty great too... I like it better than the restaurant on Goleta Pier.

Endless Summer Bar-Cafe - fun, live music, great views and the bartenders treat you nicely! Walk along the breakwater before or after for a kid-less stroll. Elements - classy & romantic. Have a great time!!

My daughter suggests the Blue Agave, as a romantic and intimate atmosphere in the up stairs portion of the restaurant... she says enjoy the fireplace. For those in Goleta, Beachside is always fun and tasty.

Call me crazy, but an early evening picnic in the rose garden - a walk downtown while it's still happy hour and then maybe a movie.. (movie ?!.. but we can't talk to each other if we sit and watch a movie ! To that I say "exactly!") have fun

3 babies in 4 years? I guess you want somewhere that serves carrots or pellets. ;-) Holy smokes you two, sure you want to have a date? Sounds like #4 baby is in the works! ;-) I'm sure you're already on the date so I hope you had a great time where ever you wound up. My vote is for Tee Off or Arnoldi's but both can get "noisy" and you need a specific taste (for meat). Perfect date spots for me when my hubby wants to impress me.

Probably too late but... Petit Valentien = xlnt food & service, romantic atmosphere Arigato = xlnt food & service, fun atmosphere Olio e Limone = xlnt food & service, sophisticated atmosphere Spirit Land Bistro = xlnt food & service, conscientious, and a place that Garrett Hardin would have approved of.

How about making a nice dinner of surf and turf and have a nice romantic picnic. Vons has a great deal on Lobster Tails. 6.99 each. Just steam them and they should be perfect.

Take the 33 to Ojai. Leave before dark. Then drive to Bocalli's. Order the Eggplant Lasagna. Try the house wine. For dessert get the strawberry shortcake.

Next time try Alcazar up on the Mesa - a good out of the way place...dim lighting, warm atmosphere, locals only, great food and drinks.
