Guys Night Out
updated: Aug 30, 2010, 12:01 PM

Looking for a place for a guys night out.

A handful of guys, who are newish to the area, are looking for a place for a guys night out (bachelor party). We are not interested in any type of exotic fanfare, and in fact if no ladies were involved, it would be just fine. Some of us are vegetarian, and none of us smoke, but a place for the groom to have a heavy meat meal, and a cigar with a whiskey drink would be perfect. Is there any place like this in the SB area?

Places People Are Talking About:

Arnoldi'sBrewhouseBrummi's German Restaurant
Cold Spring TavernCreeksideGino's Pizza
Hitching PostHob NobRuth's Chris

Tee-Off (not ideal for the vegetarians, but if you want a nice steak and whiskey drink - I'd recommend it)

If you want more "high brow" quality dining = Lucky's

If you want okay food but stiff drinks in a fun atmosphere = Joes

Zaytoon on Canon Perdido. They have delicious Middle Eastern food and they offer hookah. I would call ahead and make sure that cigars are allowed.

Hob Nob has a cigar smoking area outside the bar portion of the restaurant. If you don't want to dine there you could eat elsewhere and retire there for drinks and a cigar. SB Cigar is a few blocks over on Anapamu; if you want a great smoke, spring for the Ashton VSG (but not the ESG, which isn't worth the money).

Any of the golf clubs that have open public dining options. Chuck's, Tee-Off, Harry's. The meet and hard liquor places. Blush on State Street, and Holdrens if you want a little softer with the hard. Lucky's out in Montecito. For the best of local funk and a great bar, the Nugget in Summerland.

I like Arnoldi's and Tee-off because I've done this type of thing at both. The key for me is having a large booth, or outside, where you can hear. Where you aren't shouting above everyone else in the place.

I'm pretty sure there's no smoking in Tee-Off. But it would be a perfect place for a meat eater... Mmm prime rib cow meat is very tasty there. Oh, down a few doors is a tobacco shop too, might have smoking in there, I think they have a big screen TV.

Go to Brummi's German restaurant on upper State, then cruise next door to Don's John for a cocktail, where you can sip it out back while smoking just about anything you want to smoke. Perfect for a bachelor party...you can be as loud and obnoxious as you want and no one will care. And there usually aren't any women there (or what would be normally be classified as women).

You start the evening with a neat whiskey at Harry's Bar and Grill at 3313 State Street, then light your cigars and walk through the lovely Upper State corridor 3 blocks west to Tee Off at 3627 State Street. There you will stub your cigars (don't forget to save them for later in their fancy vials) and order a medium-rare Rib Eye along with a good pour of a Qupe Syrah. From there you should walk off the food and drinks by heading towards downtown while re-kindling your Cohiba. I say towards, because you will eventually lose mo and end up at one of the unique State/DLV dives along the way, never making it downtown. Load up the jukebox, play some pool and then cab home.

I was right there with POPE until I read rib eye and Qupe Syrah... I'll take an Eagle cut and a very dirty Grey Goose martini, thanks. However, I'm a chick so I won't be invited to this party. A girl can dream, though. ;-)

BTW 101621, driving wasn't on their "to do" list for this party. Lighten up!

Very classy.

Cold Spring Tavern; but suggest a DD/hired car (to be on the safe side).
Ruth's Chris' Steakhouse... though I haven't tried the one in SB (is it even still there?!), the one in Beverly Hills is fantastic. Of course, La Cumbre Plaza is non smoking now (ug).
And ditto on the Brewhouse too!

I recommend Chuck's Steak House patio at the harbor.

Have your fun right out in public, where the tourists can
enjoy the spectacle

Have the Teriayki steak.

Great Hofbrau brew on tap at Brummi's. As close to Munich brau and chow as you can get in SB. Knockwurst to knock your socks off.
