The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) is a non-profit, public service dedicated to helping members of the Santa Barbara County community find the legal assistance they need. Callers are directed to the most appropriate legal resource, whether that resource is an attorney or another community service that may be of assistance.
When buying or selling a home, starting a business or going through a divorce, the right attorney can help resolve legal issues. When you call the Lawyer Referral Service, you'll talk with experienced, caring, willing-to-listen, in-take staff.
How does LRS work?
Ideally, it matches those seeking legal help, but unsure of where to find it, to the right attorney. Callers are screened by LRS staff to determine whether a potential referral actually has a legal problem or whether the case may be better suited to another resource or organization such as the Legal Aid Foundation or Small Claims Court. If a lawyer's advice is recommended, callers are given the name and telephone number of a licensed, insured and experienced attorney who can help. The LRS strives to match callers with the best possible lawyers in the field they need, and follows-up afterward to ensure satisfaction.
The LRS acts as a buffer between prospective client and attorney, taking into consideration the potential client's spoken language, circumstances, geographic convenience, type of legal problem and financial situation. In many ways, the LRS has become a lifeline for those seeking legal assistance, but lacking the ability to find an attorney with the requisite experience in the needed area of law. The LRS provides a vital means of legal accessibility.

Because the LRS is the ONLY non-profit lawyer referral service sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Bar Association and certified by the State Bar of California. Member lawyers must meet strict requirements to serve on legal specialty panels which include:
