With heavy equipment in place, and the former cafeteria parking lot now a distant memory, at 4:00 p.m. today, July 10, a ceremonial groundbreaking took place at Dos Pueblos High School, signaling the construction phase of the Dos Pueblos Elings Center for Engineering Education.
Before a large crowd of current and former students, parents, school administrators and board members, elected officials, donors, and community members, shovels were turned following remarks by Superintendent Brian Sarvis, Engineering Academy Director Amir Abo-Shaeer, lead donor Virgil Elings, and Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy Foundation president Sandy Seale.
The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy Foundation raised more than $2.3 million, enabling the project to move into the construction phase. Foundation president Sandy Seale noted that fundraising efforts will continue in order to furnish the building and purchase computers and equipment.
Dos Pueblos High School is located at 7266 Alameda Avenue, Goleta, CA 93117. The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy is a joint program of the Santa Barbara Secondary School District and the Santa Barbara County Education Office's Regional Occupational Program.
