Loafing Around
updated: Jul 10, 2010, 10:00 AM

Dear Edda,

Last Saturday, I was on my way home from the Farmer's Market and decided, at the last second, to stop at Our Daily Bread for a couple of loafs. There was no place to park right in front, so I pulled into the red zone just for a few minutes. My thinking was that I didn't know where the next available spot would be, and I didn't want to have to backtrack. Besides, the meter maids don't really check as much on the weekends. Also, there are so many customers at that store; it really shouldn't be painted red out front. In order to show that I knew it was red, I left my car angling out toward the street, not fully pulled into the spot. Then I dashed into the store.

Have you noticed that the ciabatta rolls at Daily Bread have gotten smaller? I tried to complain, but the foreign guy who works there pretended not to understand. Well anyway, the rather unattractive lady in front of me couldn't decide what kind of sandwich to order, and then she wanted two orders rung up separately - sheesh! Needless to say, I took a little longer than I had planned.

On my way back to the car, some people yelled at me and said I shouldn't park there. I pretended to ignore them, but it hurt my feelings. I wanted bread but there was no place to park! What do you think?

Signed,

Hungry Guy

Dear Hungry Guy,

I think the plural of loaf is loaves.
