While Santa Barbara was immersed in solstice fun, I attended a wedding in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
The groom and best man were old friends from Santa Barbara and one of the ushers was from Simi Valley and we represented well alongside two Santa Marians also attending.
The first meal from the reception was one of the best meals I've ever had at a wedding, with roast duck and sprouted seeds to start, a lovely chicken breast as the main, and assorted cakes with ice cream and spun sugar for dessert.
But the treat of the night came at the second meal - a whole roast pig covered with gorgeous salty crackling.
One item in great abundance in a tourist town like Stratford is a cream tea.
We had fresh baked currant scones with clotted cream, strawberry preserves, and a pot of tea with plenty of milk and sugar on the side. About 4 pounds or $6.50.
I am very greedy and try to slather as much cream as possible onto the scone.
This was our final snack in Stratford before heading back to London, and this was served just across the walkway from Shakespeare's birth home. Not such a bad view.
The food here is lovely. I really hope these photos will help counter the myth that british food is bad! :)
