Overactive Self-Esteem
updated: May 29, 2010, 9:50 AM
Dear Edda,
I am a high school junior. I have gotten A's in all of my art classes since I was a freshman, and in junior high, I won an award for a diorama I made for my history class, even though I got a C on the history part of the project. My parents want me to apply to college next year, but I think I should just become an artist instead. College seems like a lot of work, and I probably already know more about art than my teachers.
I think my parents should give me the money they saved for me to go to college, so I can rent my own apartment and start working as an artist. I mean, it's my money, right? But my parents say that I should at least go to city college and study art there.
My mom says I have an overactive self-esteem. Have you ever heard of that?
Signed,
Really Good Artist

Dear Really,
No, I've never heard of overactive self-esteem, but it's possible.
Edda
