Lost in the Riviera
updated: May 22, 2010, 11:00 AM

Dear Edda,

I can barely type because I'm so angry! I was on my way to a luncheon today in the Riviera. I know, but before you say anything, just let me say I almost never go to the Riviera, but the luncheon was a fundraiser for underprivileged cats, and I'm quite a cat-person.

Anyway, as I was driving along that awful APR, or whatever it's called, I got lost. I mean, who wouldn't? It's a very winding road and there are no landmarks - why couldn't they have made it straight?

So, I slowed down to look for a sign or a decent driveway and noticed that there were a lot of cars behind me. I was so relieved! I lowered my window just a bit and signaled to this perfectly suburban looking woman in a minivan to pull along side so that I could ask for directions. She wouldn't! She made some sort of waving gesture with her hand, suggesting that I should keep moving along or move over or something. At first I thought it was because there was traffic coming from the other direction.

In any case, I just stopped right there in order to be safe, and kept signaling her with my two fingers to move up. The other cars started honking! Finally, that very inconsiderate woman in the minivan pulled up, and before I could tell her I was lost, she yelled at me! She said I couldn't stop there and that I was going to cause an accident. And she wouldn't listen when I tried to tell her where I needed to go! I had to call home and have my husband come and get me. I was so upset that I even missed the luncheon.

Edda, how can people be so inconsiderate and rude?

Signed,
Lost in the Riviera

----

Dear Lost,

Unfortunately, the world is full of rude and inconsiderate people.

-Edda

It's so easy to get lost on APS. The only clues to where you are at are the street signs, the only road with any width (except where it's one way and you can't get off it easily anyway), and the periodic view of the city as a landmark. They should have citizens lining the streets pointing the way.
