Non-Profit of the Week: SB County Arts Fund
updated: May 01, 2010, 9:10 AM
The Founded in 1983, The Arts Fund is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to grassroots programming that nurtures local talent, enriches arts education, and promotes public awareness of artists in Santa Barbara County.
The Arts Fund sponsors the Individual Artist Awards (IAA), an annual juried competition open to Santa Barbara County artists that has provided over 140 visual, literary and performing artists with cash prizes and exhibit and performance opportunities. We also support emerging talent through our Teen Arts Mentor Program, which pairs promising young artists with professional master artists in a studio setting. Since 2001, The Arts Fund has maintained a community gallery space at 205C Santa Barbara Street, on the corner of Yanonali and Santa Barbara Street. The Arts Fund Gallery exhibits the work of IAA award winners and Teen Mentorship artists and is made available to other nonprofits and artists in need of exhibition and event space. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
This year The Arts Fund is pleased to be launching Salon Series 2010, a continuation of last year's blockbuster event series, 20/20. This engaging program reflects the spirit of The Arts Fund's work by bringing art lovers and local artists together in venues that foster creative ideas and conversation. Salons begin in May and a calendar of events will be available on our website in mid-April.
The mission of The Arts Fund is to create, fund, and administer programs and projects that foster the arts for the people of Santa Barbara County, to strive to maximize the effectiveness of arts resources, and to nurture collaborative relationships with other arts organizations. Through the years, The Arts Fund has worked on projects in partnership with the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, CAMA, The Contemporary Arts Forum, the Santa Barbara City Schools, The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Alpha Resource Center, the Santa Barbara Boys and Girls Club and Arts for Humanity.
