Early Riser

Dear Edda,
I am an early riser, and my wife likes to sleep late. The trouble is that I am always the one who has to make coffee. Is this fair?

Dear Mr. Coffee,
Life is full of little reminders that it isn't fair. I had an uncle once who couldn't sleep past 4:00 am. Anyway, he had a habit of making coffee as soon as he got up every morning. He thought it was a nice gesture for the rest of the family to wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee. For some reason, he never considered that my aunt, who liked to sleep until six, hated coffee and couldn't stand the smell of it waking her up every morning just after four a.m. One morning, according to family lore, she couldn't take it anymore, and threatened my uncle with a box of dryer sheets (don't ask). From then on, she made coffee for him after she got up, at six-fifteen.
FYI, there are coffee makers that have timers on them that you can set, to make the coffee whenever you want.

My husband and I have the same exact situation, which after 25 years of marriage, we don't consider a problem. We have separate coffee makers. He makes his at 6 am or whenever he gets up, I have no idea, and I make mine much later.
