Wine Question
updated: Mar 27, 2010, 10:15 AM
Dear Edda,
A few years ago I was in Vegas. One night I drank too much white wine. I really lost control, did some things that I regret, and got very, very sick. Since then, I have only drank red wine, no white wine. This has been working out okay except this week I agreed to go out on a first date to a fish restaurant. Given my history, would it be okay to order red wine with my halibut?
Signed,
Fish Out Of Water
----
Dear Fish,
Yes, it would be fine to order red wine with halibut. But if they're out of halibut, you're on your own. Also, water is a good option, if you fear that wine might not be a good choice for you, or a repeat of Las Vegas.
Also, you don't say what you were eating the night of the white wine incident. But most importantly, I want to know what you did that was so regrettable?? Was it "The Hangover" bad? Or just waking up married to the blackjack dealer from the Tropicana bad? Given so little information, how am I supposed to know what kind of wine to recommend? Details, people!

Dear Edda,
My neighbor hogs the communal laundry room on the only days I am free to do laundry. She does up to 10 loads a day! Is it OK to ask her if she can just do my laundry when her monopolization of the facility has ceased?
Signed,
Dirty Shirt
----
Dear Dirty,
Yes, I think it is fine to ask. After all, she must really love to do laundry! However, sometimes really clueless, self-centered, inconsiderate, obsessive clothes-washing people like this can also be quite snotty when you ask them for seemingly reasonable things. So be careful.
As an alternative, if she says no, you can always put an OUT-OF-ORDER sign on the machine so you can use it, or, you can get there first, and laugh gaily when she arrives, or you can mix your stuff in with hers and then accuse her of stealing your clothes.
