Local Star
updated: Mar 14, 2010, 5:37 PM
Friday's Where Is It (WII) photo took us to the farthest region on the right hand side of the March Edness Map - Carpinteria.
The building graced by this star is one that's been in the news a lot lately (well, not the building itself, but the company that's housed there).
It's Carl Karcher Enterprises, also known as CKE, the parent company of Carl's Jr., La Salsa, Green Burrito, Red Burrito and Hardee's restaurants. We don't have any Hardee's here at home, but a few runs through the Carl's drive-thru window might have helped you recognize the star on its own. Try viewing a crop of the photo on your computer - if we'd only shown you the star and not the tree, would you have recognized it? What if it was yellow? What if there was a smiley face and a side of fries?
It was recently announced the CKE was to be acquired by a Boston private equity firm, but according to this recent article, the company will stay in town.
A more recent article from bizjournals.com suggests that Wendy's (the fast-food chain, not McCaw) might be making a higher bid. Who knows what might happen then. In the world of big burgers, it's anyone's guess - kind of like March Edness.

Please let Rodger Dodger have an Edhat tattoo on his forehead - that would be awesome!
