Does anyone know when the new Ross is going to open in Goleta's Camino Real Center?

No I don't. Thanks for asking. But since only a choker collar and a properly-placed cattle prod could get me into the existing Ross store, I'm probably not the right one to ask.

Thanks 58999 - that was helpful

Well, I'm not much more help with an actual date, but I was there in the parking lot this morning and I noticed a new Coming Soon sign and also there were signs of life inside the closed store. Looks like they are doing something in there, so I guess it won't be too much longer.

Just curious. What is the corporate process in which Ross gets their stores to smell the way they do???

Why do we even care if we are getting ANOTHER Ross. Isn't 1 enough?

And 58999, that was beautifully worded.

Bear in mind that not everyone in our community can shop at Macy's, or a lot of the high priced department stores around town. I'm glad there are low cost options for those that struggle every day to make ends meet.

Most clothing stores in this area are well out of the reach for many. Lots of working people and retired people shop there. I pretty much avoid it, have probably been there 5 times in 10 years, but I'd rather go there than Saks anytime.

I mean, it's nice that there will be another low cost store... but why have two of the same, when we could use some variety!

The store mgr told me June. Our little Ross at 5 Points is one of the best in the country for selection. Why is everyone begrudging people for having a lower price store for very good items? I hope they do keep both stores open. They'll be 8 miles apart!

I live in Goleta and I cannot wait for a close Ross, I certainly do NOT have money to spend in Macy's/Saks most stores on State!

Absolutely, 59077! Who are these snobs that just have money to burn at Saks, Macy's, and boutique shops, anyway? Oh yeah, I forgot, must be movie stars and government employees burning thru our tax dollars! Unbelievable! Love Ross! Love Ross! Love Ross! Its fun on so many levels to shop there! The hunt, the find, the search for a matching set, the prices, and its all great when your friend asks you where you got that beautiful dress and you get to say Ross! There needs to be more stores like Ross, less big box department store chains!

In response to comment 59080 just because someone is a government employee doesn't mean they're raking in the big bucks. Do I get paid more than most jobs (with the inclusion of benefits), yes, is it anywhere near being able to live in SB without going paycheck to paycheck, NO!

I love Ross but you have to time your trip correctly so you get there before it turns into a giant mess (when they open is best) and have an ample amount of time and patience to hunt. I've gotten really good deals on purses, work clothes, street clothes, baby/kid items and housewares.

Have any of you shopped at Macy's lately? There is always a sale, and there is always a 20% off coupon. It ends up being quite cheap.

And if it is not on sale, we don't buy it.

Sorry, 59086, didnt mean to single out government employees. Just had a "friend" bragging about how much she is getting when she retires and how much she makes now for 30hours a week, and was tee'd off. I dont mind the fact that in the private sector I work 2-3 hoursmore to make the same living, its my choice. I just get tee'd off when they come after me to pay for "them". Its not just government employees and state school teachers, there's trust fund babies too! Didnt mean to single you out. Its hard on everyone and I'm sure there are plenty of hard working guvmint employees, I just dont know any.

I want better quality merchandise than some of what I see at Macy's and hesisitate to pay Ross prices. But there is always Alpha Thrift, and United Family Services, both in Goleta, and I can find better stuff than at Macy's at lower prices than Ross, plus there's the thrill of the hunt. ;-)

"Thrill of the hunt" at Macy's??? You're joking, right? Its the same manufacturers in the same identical stacks month after month, year after year. I used to work for May Co. and there prices are no where near Ross, not even close! Yes there's always a sale at Macy's, usually 20%-25% off sometimes even more. Wonder why? Because their stuff is always 50-70% higher than anywhere else and thats how you get people in the door at a chain department store. Check it out, there is always always always a 20-50% sale going on there. I know, I used to work there in management.

I think that 59096 meant the "thrill of the hunt" available in thrift shops not at Macy's.

Yes, Ross is great! and I'm glad there will be one now in the Golleto..
Husband wanted me to point something out. Yes, to shop at Ross takes time and planning, but thats the fun part for me. My husband hates to shop so he trades $$ for his time. He knows what he wants and either orders it online or goes into a store like Macy's where you know exactly where it is and where the cash register is and where to park. It costs more, but he's in and out and back to doing whatever he wants besides shopping. Its a fair trade if he can afford it. But for me, I enjoy shopping and getting great deals on stuff, so Ross is perfect for me. Welcome to Goleta, Ross, you will do well here!

I for one would rather see a Target. As one of those government employees that isn't highly paid, and can't retire because it isn't a fraction of my current pay (even at 52 and 23 years on the job), I look for a value and price compromise. A good value that will last years is best. Talbots sales (end of the season, 50% off) are tops. Good quality and I can shop on-line, don't have to dig through piles and miles of racks, (which I hate doing). I've been in the Ross, and it wasn't a nice shopping experience. But then I don't like shopping at Macy's either, which is also like a bargain basement in it's organization. I just don't like spending hours shopping for a pair of black pants. Just my preference. Target would at least give me a good place to shop for my son's clothing. He also hates to shop, and would never spend the time digging through Ross.

The clothes at Ross come from stores like Macy's. When Macy's (Dillards, Old Navy, etc.) don't sell all the clothes they purchased for a particular season (winter clothes, summer clothes) Ross will make a bid on the overstock and then sell the clothes at huge discount. They usually can not sell the clothes until about a year after they were originally released. They also get clothes from stores going out of business and manufacturers with more inventory than anticipated. When you go to Ross you will see tags on the clothing from the original store it was purchased for (macey's tags with Ross price over them). This is why most of the clothes are somewhat outdated. You can also find goods for your home such as carpets, baskets and cooking utensils. Wallets, hats, shoes, art/posters. It's not just clothes.

The five points store is out of control sometimes. Too crowded and long lines. A second store would help with the crowds. It would also be nice for the people that depend on public transportation. The people that need to be prodded to go into these stores should just refrain from comment. It makes you and everyone else in this town look ignorant. Your comments are totally unnecessary and offensive. But judging by your post, you don't really care.

@59183 - I care. I really do. About making sure I never set foot in that nasty 5-Points Ross store ever again. Oh, same thing for Home Depot.

And I'm sure everyone else in this town doesn't feel looked on as ignorant simply due to my anti-Ross posts. By the way, thanks for the run-down about the Ross store inventory. I'm sure no one knew what they sold before you let them in on the secret.

15:59 and 15 seconds.

Perhaps some of those that post here have never been to a third world country, and just don't realize how good we have it. Many expect to be pampered and be treated like royalty. And then, of course, they expect to be paid handsomely for any labor they might do so they can afford all the luxuries.

Many of our jobs are paid by creating massive government debt that our children's children can never hope to pay off. During the last decades, we have had extravagant lifestyles based on borrowed money, and only come to expect more, yet economic forces now point towards slower growth, if none at all. So if you're not ready to tighten your belts a bit and live a more sustainable lifestyle, you're not ready for this decade, or this century.

It really takes skill to make ends meet and live in this town on an average salary or less. I respect those that can do it.
