Hi on Wheels

by the dedicated staff

On Friday morning the dedicated staff enjoyed a bike ride from midtown Santa Barbara, up to the Riviera and past Franchesci Park, over to Mountain Drive and all the way to San Ysidro on Mountain, down to Jameson and the Biltmore and back via the waterfront and State Street.

We stopped early on to smell the roses. They are so beautiful right now.

As we turned on to Mountain Drive we noticed a sign on a telephone pole. Pepper, featured here on Edhat when she went missing last year after the Tea Fire, is missing again!

Along Mountain Drive the fuzzy llamas (or are they alpacas?) were happily eating grass in the sunshine.

By the time we hit the famous downhill bike statue, we had only seen two other riders. One who was ahead of us disappeared into the distance as we stopped to take pictures. Being cast in iron is a good excuse for not saying hello.

It is sad to see the remains of this chimney from one of the burned homes, further along on Mountain Drive.

The first person to return our wave and greeting was by the Coral Casino. He was simultaneously riding his bike while talking on the phone, wearing flip flops, and still managed to say hi with a wave and a nod.

The bike path was a bust. No one said hi on the bike path. We stopped at the wharf to take this picture of an artist at work. As we returned to the path from taking the photo another greeting was returned.

State Street was the most productive place to get greetings. Four of the six people who said hi, either with a wave, a nod, or just a smile, were on State Street. The winner of the guessing game was Coment 46311, who guessed seven greetings would be returned. Well done. You can see all the comments and guesses here.

They were putting on an interesting Christmas statue/art piece outside Montecito Bank and Trust.
