We did a great group costume for the CAF Black & Orange Bash several years ago. Caveman-type costumes (fake fur tunics and face fur over our shoes) plus Santa hats. Santa Barbarians!

Wear some "spanish style" roof tiles on your head and some cream colored clothing...you're instantly any-building-santa-barbara. Just as long as you're not too tall, that is - otherwise you'll be walking around as "No on Measure B" ....

One of you should be a hobo and the other one a "swell".

Here's my idea: You go as "Santa", your wife goes as a "Barbie" doll -- when you stand together, you make Santa Barbara.

Go as a local politician. All you need is a pair of rose colored glasses. Bonus points for painting a light blue line down your body.

Go as the Quaids. But don't be too realistic, or you might end up under arrest!

If there were four of you, you could go as fires -- Zaca, Gap, Tea, and little Jesusita.

If you go, as Edette says, and wear red tiles on your head, don't forget the ubiquitous faux towers (which, I just read, remain exempt under height limits even if Measure B passes).

What was the deal with Connie Bryan? I used to catch her show every now and then, and her last show had some really bitter rant about Santa Barbara and announced she was leaving. Anyone know what happened?

...ha ha! Nice job, everyone! So far, I think ENL and Patrick have the funniest ideas, although OICUB12 has a good one too. Here's a tweak to Patrick's, perhaps Santa and an alternate famous Barbara (so that the idea uses no stereotypes?) such as Barbra Streisand, Barbara Bush, Barbara Walters or Barbara Boxer? Oh, and OP, post a photo when you have it worked out! Fun!

Well, if you don't like my building idea - how about holding a newspress with a cross through it sign in one hand (like an anti-NP sign) and a laptop in the other hand...walla! You're Craig Smith! :)

You could each be a half of the Chromatic Gate...works together and apart. Or Davy Crockett and St Barbara?

Dressing as Randy and Evi Quaid would be funny! The east/west gang banger idea sounds perilous. I'm sure there will be enough actual gang bangers on the streets.

My husband and I once dressed up as Col. John Fremont and Bernarda Ruiz for Fiesta. Apparently Santa Barbarians know their history; he got booed but I didn't.
