Suspect Arrested for Siphoning Fuel From Truck
updated: Mar 18, 2017, 7:00 PM

Source: Santa Barbara County Deputy Sheriff's Department

The suspect wanted in connection with a gas theft at a Goleta business earlier this week is in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail. Sheriff’s deputies arrested 58-year-old Robert Antles of Goleta today, March 18, 2017 at his residence. He is booked on charges of vandalism, petty theft, prowling and a probation violation.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on March 16, 2017, a male suspect and an unidentified female passenger driving a white utility truck entered the front parking area of Coastal Copy in the 800 block of Ward Drive in Goleta. They parked in the area where the delivery trucks were located. The male suspect retrieved a drill and gas can from his truck and then approached the delivery truck. He then drilled a hole in the gas tank and siphoned gas from the tank into his gas can.

Coastal Copy released video surveillance of the incident to KEYT News which then ran a story on the incident. The next day a Goleta resident who saw the story contacted the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office and identified Antles as a person of interest due the fact he had seen him frequent the Ward Drive area in a white utility truck.

Sheriff’s deputies investigated and tracked the suspect vehicle to a residence in Goleta. Deputies located Antles, who is on probation for numerous counts of burglary, at the residence. The investigation revealed that Antles was the suspect responsible for the theft and felony vandalism.

Due to his probation violation, Antles is being held without bail.
