Scanner Reports 3-17-17
updated: Mar 17, 2017, 7:00 AM

Roger the Scanner Guy

Thank Dog it's FRYday. HAPPY SAINT PATRICK’S DAY. I hope you’re all wearing green. Been hearing calls here and there about a shoplifter, sounds a lot like the one that was hitting PetCo on Milpas. Heard a call Wednesday evening that a female with the same basic description was leaving a store in Paseo Nuevo. They said she was wearing the same top she ripped off from that store last week in Paseo Nuevo. Grey long sleeved sweatshirt, pretty sure they said, and baggy pants, always baggy pants. Heard the same description of a shoplifter at REI; HFA, baggy pants, hoodie, in her 20's. Some descriptions vary. Heavy set maybe because of the pants. PetCo employees said she is thin with baggy pants, wearing a hoodie and has a silver Diamondback bicycle and carrying Trader Joes bags. When caught, she starts protesting "You’re harassing me, stop harassing me!" Sounds like a pro with the stealing, annoying with the harassing part. True criminals operate, acting as if they have the right to violate others. That is my opinion.

Sex offenders are this way, also my opinion. They feel as if they have the right to violate their victims, but they don't. Victims need to put their foot down and say, "No more" and call the police. I read somewhere on Facebook a local who owned a business had a customer that wrote her a bad check for 900.00 for merchandise. She kept giving the crook chances to pay up and make the check good. Of course, the crook wouldn't. I believe the victim finally pressed charges. Put your foot down and say No More. Don't give them any more than one chance, period. Otherwise wave good bye to whatever they took. Many criminals smile while stabbing you in the back.

I love Edhat, as it is like a small town where everyone knows each other. It's like the Santa Barbara I knew many years ago, a town where everyone helps one another. Many still do that. All towns change. They get bigger, other people show up and the town isn't so small anymore. But on Edhat, we post what is happening if we catch it, then others know. If we can help we do. Edhat, you do my heart good. Sometimes I post silly Code Reds about lost animals, I know. But I want to help someone find their loved one in the way that I can. I love the Edhat referrals with the picture above of a group of Edhatters. Seeing Peter in that picture, my brother from another mother. We are family. Whether or not you like it, some of you are related to Roger Dodger. We let each other know about broken water mains, where roads are closed for construction or repairs, have contests win prizes, display beautiful pictures of nature, the beach, sunrises, sunsets, the islands, the fog, flowers, spiders, bugs, cats, dogs, the ground from high above, share astronomy news, pictures of hiking, hiking trails the best places to go and see, Santa Barbara history, gardening, food referrals, recipes, cartoons. And the comments are great too. I love this small town I live in called Edhat.

Scanner Reports, Wednesday:

  • Fall victim head injury Villa Santa Barbara.
  • Check on the two campers in the gray tunnel at the Chase Park extension playground.
  • Non injury traffic accident at the YMCA, 36 Hitchcock.
  • Vehicle vs bicyclist, San Andres at Carrillo.
  • Fight at the Sunrise Apartments in I.V. I guess it was time to wake up.
  • Premises check, Ortega Park.
  • Theft of a cell phone at the Casino. My sister got pick pocketed for her cell phone the other day. Those damn things are expensive. Guess I'll keep my landline. Let them pickpocket that and see how far they get.
  • Cargo van rental returned to the 6100 Block of Hollister. I wonder if it was the same one from the 400 Block of East Cota, still considered stolen.
  • Fatal ATV accident, 1500 block of Camino Rio Verde. R.I.P.
  • Keep the peace while ex-boyfriend returns girlfriend’s RV to her, Pueblo side of Cottage Hospital.
  • Check the welfare of a drunk, down in the 800 block of Quinientos.
  • Check the welfare of a drunk man sitting in his truck outside San Roque Market in the 3000 block of State Street.
  • Male on the railroad tracks shooting a rifle, possibly a pellet gun, on Modoc near Hidden Valley. Before police arrived, he put the gun in a case, dropped it in the trunk of a silver Ford, and drove off. Police checked the area and didn't find the male but thought the gun to be a pellet gun.
  • Backpack found stuck in hedge in the 2400 block of Chapala, someone's stash. Used to find backpacks in our bushes all the time.
  • Suspicious circumstances, male and female at 5 Points with grocery carts in the bushes filled with laundry detergent. Either they have been hitting laundry rooms in the area or they got them out of a store dumpster, my guess.
  • Keep the peace in the 400 block of El Sueno Road.
  • Fight between 2 subjects in the 300 block of West Victoria.
  • Verbal assault, lower State. A woman walking her dog was verbally assaulted by someone she described as a homeless female.
  • Medical call, CVS Pharmacy in the 2900 block of State Street.
  • Under the influence male disturbing at the back entrance of Vons, 1040 Coast Village Road. SBPD responded code 3 to this one, sounded kinda wild.
  • Assault investigation, 600 block of San Pasqual.

Scanner Reports, Thursday:

  • SBPD officer running plate of an occupied vehicle on the 1400 block of Euclid, Vermont plates. He cleared the call with a warning.
  • Same officer on a group at a bus stop, Carrillo and Castillo. Then over to the East Beach Bath House on a complaint of a subject throwing trash cans and lids around.  After that, on a group of 10 on the beach. Busy guy.
  • Vehicle accident with injury, 2000 block of Anacapa.
  • Traffic hazard, construction, Mason at Castillo.
  • 5150 talking to himself, then punching himself. I used to do that until I dislocated my jaw. 600 block of Garden Street.
  • Cottage ER, assault investigation.
  • Suspicious circumstances, 100 block of West Mission.
  • Occupied RV on Laguna Street, request checker unit come by and mark it for 90 minute parking.
  • Campers, 200 block of West Montecito.
  • Camper at Casa De La Guerra, 9 East De La Guerra.
  • Check the welfare of a subject in a wheelchair, 135 South Milpas. Looked rough to me too, but the police said he was OK.
  • Report of a WMA, red hair, emotionally unstable, grabbing at people at Cabrillo and State Street.
  • Probation check, 1200 block of Liberty.
  • Theft of a bicycle in front of the Carpinteria Library, 5100 block of Carpinteria Avenue.
  • Non injury hit and run, a large RV, last seen west on Victoria, contacted a vehicle at Chapala and Anapamu.
  • Female driver in a silver Nissan, 1200 block of West Carrillo.
  • Check the welfare of a subject passed out at the ATM of Heritage Oaks Bank, 1035 State Street.
  • Altercation, 3700 block of Avalon Lane, roommates.
  • Kid threw a can off the Micheltorena overpass, 400 block of West Micheltorena.
  • Suspicious subject, 201 South Milpas, was walking around in and out of businesses, broke a sign in the flower shop. Unable to locate, but police might have caught up to him north of location.
  • Check the welfare of a dog in a vehicle, 100 block of East Yanonali.
  • Suspicious subject, first block of West Arrellaga. Asked a female if she wanted a ride, she said "No", and he's still there. Police responded, caught up to a subject in the block, requested medics for an intoxicated subject.

Will it looks like we may get a little more rain here soon. That will be nice clear the air and fill up Lake Cachuma one drop at a time.  Have a lovely weekend. Thanks, Brother Roger, for pointing out we are a family. I get my news here because it's better than the TV and we don't have a decent daily paper anymore. Yes, I am wearing green, a green t-shirt and green hair. The grandkids get a kick out of me spraying my hair green. I have to buy the spray at Halloween as that's the only time it's available.
