Box Truck Traffic Accident on SR-154
updated: Mar 15, 2017, 3:50 PM

Update by California Highway Patrol
at 3:50 p.m., March 15, 2017

California Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle collision Wednesday morning on Highway 154 when two vehicles sideswiped each other.

At approximately 10:10 a.m. Wednesday, the driver of an Isuzu box truck was traveling westbound on Highway 154 when the vehicle crossed over the yellow lines into the eastbound lane into the path of a Chevrolet Cruz, whose driver swerved left to avoid the truck. The two vehicles sideswiped but only moderate injuries were reported by the driver and passenger of the Chevrolet.

Averille Walton, 36, of Hawthorne, CA, was traveling westbound on Highway 154 west of Stagecoach Road, when her Isuzu box truck crossed over the solid double yellow lines into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons.

The crossing placed the box truck directly in the path of a Chevrolet Cruz driven by Daniel C. Basso, 67, of Kalama, WA. Basso swerved to the left to avoid the truck and the two vehicles sideswiped.

California Highway Patrol, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies, Santa Barbara County Fire Department and AMR responded to the scene. Basso, along with his passenger Cynthia Basso, 68, were transported to Santa Ynez Cottage Hospital for moderate injuries. Walton did not report any injuries.
