Craig was shooting some photos of the Surf Museum on its last day. Plenty of young skaters and surf museum attendees would have been excited had they known the unassuming man with the telephoto lens was one of the founders of Zephyr production and portrayed in the award winning "Dogtown and Z-Boys"

What a shame. My guess is outlandish rent had something to do with it's demise. Guys I knew in the 1960s had those big bulky boards, won challenges, made surfing movies and were on the cover of Surfer Magazine. They just enjoyed the heck out of having fun in the water.

Wow, wasn't that like the last real piece of funk? Now it's just a little La replica, I don't see why the la people drive all the way up here to eat at the same style restaurants that they have in la.

Yes. Back when world population was 1/2 of what it is now. And surfers could enjoy being the only one on a wave, over and over again.

I think the surfer museum should move to Carpinteria. When I think of surfing I think of Carpinteria. A museum would be a perfect addition.

Dog Town and the Z Boys. And the Powell-Peralta Skate shop just closed. At least we still have a few Z Boys (and the one and only Z-Boy female, Peggy Oki) residing in SB. Go to http : w w w . onionskin . Com /pop/ to find the likes of Tony Peralta, Darryl Genis Peggy Oki, and a few others. All the names are listed there.

Yes, outlandish rent. The museum's building has changed owners and the rents went up by multiples. There will be new development there without a doubt, mark my words. Probably get approval by calling it a "remodel" and leaving one brick in place to qualify. Money money money! Don't blame LA people, blame the attitude about money that pervades our culture here. More more more!

Wait, Darryl Genis, the lawyer going to prison was on the Zephyr team? Never knew that!

Chacha.. yah Darryl was good friends with Tony Peralta. They use to bomb down State Street back when it went all the way to the Mission (before Los Olivos replaced that section, and State connected instead the Old Stage Coach trail -was old Hollister Ave was renamed to (upper) State)

Little known fact Genis probably didnt pay taxes back then, when he shaped surfboards (under the table)
