Cedar Waxwing Rescued
updated: Jan 11, 2017, 8:03 PM

By Julia J. Di Sieno

This gorgeous cedar waxwing was brought to the Animal Rescue a team tonight before 6pm. He was found on the property owners front door entrance. Most folks wouldn't think to go beyond the call of duty for, " just a bird" as quoted by his rescuer, a local tree care service owner. Mike did the right thing tonight in order to give this migratory bird a 2nd chance at life. Tomorrow we will transport him to the Sbwcn. Thank you Mike H.

A lovely bird. Hope it survives okay. Thanks to the person who spotted it and thanks to the Wildlife Rescue folks.

I do not know what is wrong with this one but I have heard that if they eat certain berries that are fermenting they can get "drunk" and fall out of trees.

And if it wasn't attractive looking or was a common creature it wouldn't be worth saving? Bias is everywhere. I like my pet scrub jay.

Awesome bird! Thanks for saving it! We had "pet" scrub jays, too! They would even go into my hubby's garage office to visit him and get peanuts. They'd sit on our knees. What a treat to have a 'wild' bird sit on your knee. Good to know this little guy is safe!

Possible window strike? We wish you well, winged one.

227- I have heard of the same problem for Cedar Waxwings and fermented berries, long ago of a zoo vet that had a giraffe to treat that had ingested fermented food.
263P- something on glass as a visual for birds to tell a solid surface is ahead. Audubon Society has tips for that.

I'm so glad to know that there are cedar waxwings in town. My pyracantha is loaded with berries but has no takers. It's been years since I've seen a flock of waxwings here in S.B. (Mission Canyon).

ACF, Hoping you land a few Waxwings your way... We recently had a Chickadee needing rescue at SY Cottage Hospital.
