A man was trapped in his vehicle after it rolled over and caught fire on SR-246 at Refugio Road on Monday evening.

At 10:09 p.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters responded with Sheriff Deputies, California Highway Patrol (CHP), and an ambulance to the scene of the incident. On arrival they found a single vehicle rollover accident where the vehicle was traveling on SR-246 and after rolling ended up in the parking area of Santa Ynez High School, reports Captain Dave Zaniboni.

The car had caught fire with a male driver, estimated to be in his 20's, was trapped inside. Firefighters immediately extinguished the fire and extricated the driver. He then complained of major injuries and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via ground ambulance. A CALstar helicopter was requested but was unable to fly due to weather constraints, reports Zaniboni.

The cause of the incident is unknown and California Highway Patrol is investigating.

That seems like an odd spot to lose control of one's car.

No Spot is odd if you are going too fast, distracted or having an uncontrolled vehicle malfunction.

932 If a driver loses control, and starts to broadside,it is not uncommon for many rolls or 'barrel' rolls. Check out car crashes from dash cams 2016 on you tube for examples.

002-the speed limit is 45, have you ever seen a car doing multiple "barrel rolls" whilst going the speed limit on hollister? NO! I watch those dash cam crashes a lot and they are almost always going far.

Darn over paid firefighters with their pensions at it again.

A little bit of irony here. The only thing the car didn't take out as it crashed thru the brush was( Note photos 5 and 7) the little roadside memorial to the young girl killed at that location last year.

It's not too hard to flip a car at 40 or 45. People on SB city streets seem to do it all the time. Usually you have to hit something. But yeah, he was probably going too fast.
