2009 Rincon Classic
by David Powdrell
Here are a few photos from Sunday's action. I counted 48 photographers lining the beach with me.
Of particular interest to me was the introduction of the "Mud Skipper" surfboards; 5' plywood surfboards with no fin and no leash attachment. Some had big swallow tails and others a more subtle template. There were about 8 young bucks impressively test driving the boards. We witnessed impressive 360's, some nose riding and some tube riding on these simple looking surfboards. They're probably called something else in the marketplace but "Mud Skipper" was the name used by the public announcer guy.
The Rincon Classic generally draws out beautiful and interesting spectators. I couldn't help but capture some of this year's flavorful surfing fans.
