CONTINUING DUI ENFORCEMENT SUMMER/LABOR DAY AVOID CAMPAIGN Avoid the 12 DUI Task Force Reminds Everyone to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Santa Barbara, CA - The National Summer/Labor Day Anti-DUI crackdown arrest update: From 12:01 AM Friday August 15, 2014 through Midnight Wednesday August 20, 2014 officers representing 12 county law enforcement agencies have arrested at least 38 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2013 46 DUI arrests occurred during the same six day time period. (**NOTE: This year's numbers are only provisional with some agencies yet to report**)

There have been no fatalities so far this Summer/Labor Day campaign period! Last year there was one alcohol-related and two drug-related traffic collision fatalities during this same time.

For the second weekend of the National DUI Mobilization, extra DUI saturation patrols will be deployed in the cities of Santa Maria, Lompoc, Guadalupe, Buellton and Goleta. A DUI Checkpoint will be deployed on Friday night in the Cities of Lompoc and Santa Barbara, with another on Saturday night in Santa Barbara. A multi-agency Task Force Operation will be conducted Friday night in the Santa Barbara area. All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will continue efforts to stop and arrest DUI drivers during their normal shifts. CHP will also continue to provide additional coverage for DUI enforcement on the highways.

Police, Sheriff and the CHP are requesting motorists to help make your community safer: Report Drunk Drivers - Call 911. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DUI arrest data collection will continue through Labor Day midnight Monday, September 1, 2014. Avoid DUI programs, named for the number of police agencies in each county, will deploy Multiple/DUI Driver's License Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force operations and local Roving DUI patrols region-wide during this 18 day Summer/Labor Day Campaign.
