DUI Checkpoint in Buellton on Saturday
updated: Aug 21, 2014, 1:01 PM

By Buellton CHP

DUI/Driver License Checkpoint

The Buellton Area of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will conduct a sobriety/driver license checkpoint on Saturday, August 23, 2014, within the unincorporated area of Santa Barbara County near Buellton. The checkpoint will be conducted during the summer campaign of the "Avoid the 12" DUI enforcement period.

All too often members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. The goal of the CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads where there is a high frequency of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. A sobriety/driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations. By publicizing our efforts we believe that we can deter motorists from drinking and/or driving while impaired and/or unlicensed. Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked for drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs or driving while unlicensed. Our objective is to send a clear message to those individuals that consider driving while unlicensed or impaired; "The CHP will be keeping an eye out for you."

NOTE: The sobriety/driver license checkpoint will be operated from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm. The media may contact the San Luis Obispo CHP dispatch at (805) 593-3333 on August 23, 2014, between 2-4 p.m. for the exact location of the checkpoint. Questions regarding the sobriety checkpoint may be directed to Buellton Area CHP Public Information Officer John Ortega or Sergeant Perry Heidebrink at (805) 688-5551.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
