Investigation into Bicyclist's Death Continues

The fatal traffic accident in Santa Maria involving the son of Abel Maldonado and a UCSB doctoral candidate, is still under investigation, reports The Independent.

Matthew O'Neill was riding his recumbent bike on Foxen Canyon Road in Santa Maria around 7:30 p.m. on August 10th when he was clipped by a truck hauling a horse trailer. O'Neill, a 33-year-old UCSB doctoral student studying special education, died at the scene.

The truck was driven by the 16-year-old son of former Lt. Governor Abel Maldonado while his 18-year-old son, Nicolas, was the only passenger. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident is under investigation.
