Zig Zag Planes
updated: Aug 18, 2014, 7:12 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

What was going on with those 2 planes at approx 6:55pm tonight - a jet and some other war-type looking plane heading South very close behind the Gulf Stream type jet, 15 minutes ago? The jet was taking a zig zag type flight pattern, while the other big plane followed in a less wavering pattern. So unusual...

Passed by Painted Cave, too. An odd combination, flying awfully close together. Husband thought it might be vintage planes heading toward Camarillo, but the first one doesn't seem to fit the bill.

First plane would have to zig-zag because he has a higher stall speed than the prop-job following. Or it could be the trailing plane has amorous intentions and the jet is just flirting.

Photograper(s) in the jet catching some views of the warbird against the local scenery.

Yup, 763. Almost certainly a photography flight in advance of this weekend's air show in Camarillo.

Looks like B-25 and Learjet to me.

The profile of the older plane at the left in the pic does indeed look like a WWII B-25 Mitchell medium bomber. They're rather rare (45 in flyable condition, 8 in CA). The jet was almost certainly taking aerial photos, probably by prior arrangement with the B-25 crew to be flying that close.

My bet is Clay Lacy in the Lear 35 and Mr. Keck in his B-25 doing some sunset photos.

That jet would not be my first choice for a platform for aerial photos of another plane, but I suppose you use what you have...

Heard those big engines and ran outside to see what it was. Love the sound of the WWII planes!

Wish we had an alert network to let everyone know when that newly SBA based P-51 is flying!

I love it, 753! If the prop plane catches the jet will we have a bunch of little Piper Cubs?
