Scanner Reports 8-18-14
updated: Aug 18, 2014, 7:00 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

Monday once again in Santa Barbara. Been hearing a lot of these Check the Welfare of Animals and Children left in vehicles; more so lately it seems. One would think a vehicle might have been developed by now preventing the inside of a vehicle getting too hot in the summer, or too cold in the winter, but of course that's not the only issue here. My Mom used to leave me in the car all the time when I was a kid she did not want to deal with me. I think a lot of Mommas left their kids in the car. I remember sitting in the old Rambler 2 or 3 hours hallucinating from the heat wondering if I was going to be baked like chocolate chip cookies by the time she got back in that hot Hammond Sun. I wasn't allowed to open the door or roll down a window because Dog Forbid someone comes along and snatch me and kill me. Back then cars were built differently mostly out of steel inside and out, steel gets really hot in the sun enough to burn the holy hell outta you when touched for any length of time. Then there's the interior of the vehicle to consider some vehicles had leather interior while others vinyl. Sitting in a car hot as hell with vinyl interior wearing shorts really SUCKS because you sweat and your legs stick to the seat then you get heat rash and gotta rub all kinds of different powders on you that half the time don't work.

I hear calls out there that people are calling 911 as soon as the parent, or parents of the animal, or child leave the vehicle. Pretty soon it's going to be against the law to leave any living thing in the vehicle for any length of time, but maybe it should be. Times were different way back when and even though some things are changing for the better like kids are not allowed to be bullied in school anymore I'm glad I grew up in the 60's. Back then you could play outside with your friends till long after it got dark, you could swim in the Little Calumet River and only lose one layer of flesh. Hell I doubt anyone makes it out of that River alive anymore! You could ride your bike right behind those DDT Mosquito Trucks and not worry about getting sterile later on. Hell none of us worried about it and none of us got no brats running around either!

Ah the Good Old Days! Ice Cream trucks, playing in piles of leaves, drinking real A&W Root Beer at the Root Beer stands and Drive ins, Dad's Root Beer was good too, Jays potato chips with free pencils in the box. Now I'm going off on another Road. With all the Hell Life I went through way back when I would much rather grow up then instead of now. While now kids get more material scrap in life they have a lot less FREEDOM. Most don't get to do the things us Old Farts did when we was kids and it sucks for them. I have some cousins still take their kids to Eagle River every year got to look at some pictures sent back and with the exception of the new sewer system it took me right back to the old days. There was an Out House when I went there that's how old I am. Maybe I'll go out and sit in one of the neighbors cars for a few hours Fry my Brains back to 1966. That would be cool wouldn't it like a Time Machine.
