Sheriff's Copter 3 or 4 (can't see the tail number) is circling North San Marcos Lane. Anyone know why?

Coming in so low, it sounds we're living in a war zone.

That's pretty close to the crime scene on Walnut Park Lane. Could be that?

Maybe they're searching for the missing SBSO press conference that was inexplicably cancelled.

Why would a copter be circling the crime scene, as if they are looking for someone, if the only suspect was already arrested??? Very strange. So tragic.

They use the copter to take aerial photos of the scene of major events.

Are you sure it's not a news chopper from LA?

I saw it, looked like one of the SBSO Hueys to me. I saw it circle exclusively north of the 101, nowhere near the crime scene which occurred south of the 101 on S. Walnut Lane. Wonder why.

They should buy a quadcopter if they're really just taking pictures.

The crime scene is North of the 101, on Walnut Park Lane, close to Cathedral Oaks. Walnut Lane (no Park) is South of the 101, running perpendicular to Hollister. My guess is the chopper is for the crime scene, as Walnut Park Lane is between Patterson and N San Marcos Lane.

891 the crime scene is not on Walnut. It's on Walnut Park Lane, which is near Foothill School, between University and Cathedral Oaks. Thus, all north of 101.

I heard copter 3 was up there don't know why? Ah there was a code 33 possibly on subjects Code 4 with 2. Not sure it's the same call I'm kinda out of it today but I have the scanner on.

It barely circled twice... and yes, it was loud but it really went away as quickly as it came.

Baloney, I watched in circle multiple times. It was at least 30 minutes.
If they're chasing a criminal, then fine... if you're just up flying around justifying having a helicopter ...then save the tax payers the cost of gas and maintenance.

Flew directly over me while I was riding my bike to get some errands behind me. Loud, but very tolerable for a few minutes.

892 is making a great point but the FAA basically bans law enforcement from using quadcopters for anything that involves money, so the operator would have to be working as an unpaid volunteer and supplying and maintaining his own equipment with their own funds. Since the Huey and its pilot are FAA licensed, no problem.

The FAA is quite serious about this and on a few occasions have imposed draconian fines on good samaritans who did nothing more than accept reimbursement for expenses from agencies they were assisting with search and rescue operations. This is why I regret the election of Obama, and his immediate predecessor, and the one before him . . .
