Traffic Rerouted in Carpinteria
updated: Aug 12, 2014, 8:43 AM

By Edhat Subscriber

Does anyone know what happened at the intersection of Via Real and Santa Monica in Carpinteria yesterday around 5:15? Some sort of car accident caused all traffic to be turned around and rerouted. But it also looked like they maybe knocked a power pole off kilter? Is that why we lost power in Carp a few times this evening, or is that in any way related to the SB/Goleta outages today?

It wasn't at the intersection.... a car came out of the motel 6 and was T-Boned by a pick up truck, completely blocking the road.... which closed for almost 2 hours

Lots of bad accidents lately. Maybe we need those driverless cars they keep talking about.

Traffic at that site is horrendous at multiple times of day. There should be a traffic signal or other monitoring.

Drivers need to pay more attention! Too many drivers are distracted. Simply put there are too many drivers who are not qualified to be behind the wheel. Accidents will always happen no matter how safe you try and make it as long as a human is in the equation.

+1 for 832! But the reality is that to have more folks out of their cars we would need a viable alternative. I like the SB MTD busses - a lot. Great bus system for such a low population density area but its just not good enough. We need more routes and more frequent service. And to get that we need more riders!

Support your local bus line. If everyone in the south county added one bus trip a month to their routine the MTD would have the resources to improve service tremendously. If everyone who lived within five blocks of a bus stop would do one trip a week we would likewise see a huge increase in bus service.

So don't just complain about traffic and bad drivers - do something about it: Ride the bus!
