August 10, 2014 - Gaviota's Glory

John Wiley is our man in the sky, sharing photos of our local region from above. Recently he captured a few over Gaviota on his way back home. The virtually untouched landscape is a nice welcome into Santa Barbara County when traveling south. For those who aren't very familiar with our unincorporated area to the north, Gaviota is home to approximately 35 people. Many associate Gaviota with Highway 101 and the Gaviota Tunnel with the rest stops. For the adventurous types, Gaviota is home to fantastic hiking trails, camping destinations, and awesomely hidden surf spots. With ranches on one side and beachside cliffs on the other, it's no secret that the rural scene is beautifully breathtaking. It's another lovely Sunday, so take the short drive and relish in the undeveloped landscape of our county.

Meet Daisy, a happy kitty who is fighting lymphoma. Meet Bacchus, a well-loved dog who is remembered by his humans. Our Non-Profit of the Week is the National Alliance on Mental Illness who helps local residents struggling with mental illness. David notices abstract art on the water, Betsy dishes up historical funnies from 100 years ago, Jenny attends the Fiesta Stock Horse Show, Mike shows off his first installment of cartoons, and edhat subscribers share poems and historical memories. Read these stories and more, below.
