We are hearing rumors that more principals are being let go in Santa Barbara. Does anyone know if there is truth to these rumors? Thanks.

It seems like more principles are being let go every day.

Maybe in advance of the Supreme Court ruling on tenure?

Principals do not have tenure, so any ruling from the court on that issue will not affect them.

I let go of my principles a long time ago. They were the principal burden in my life.

My 8th grade English teacher taught me how to distinguish principle from principal.

"The principal is always your pal".

I never forgot it this handy way to remember which is which.

Principal as a spelling word in 8th grade?? What principals have been "let go"? There have been position changes, but I didn't know pink slips were involved...

A "pink slip" in public education usually means the required notification on March 15th that the instructor's job position is not guaranteed for the following academic year. In lots of districts many pink slips are delivered each spring simply as a tactic to guard against potential budget shortfalls. There are a lot of complicated protocols about re-hire rights for tenured teachers who have received pink slips while nontenured have no such rights.
Principals are administrators who are essentially at-will employees and might be dismissed at almost any moment.

Could it be that they are not happy with the direction that the District is going in educational practices? Or they don' t agree the superintendent methodologies!

The principals have no principles so they're being let go. Principals with principles are hard to come by. If all the principals without principles were let go, in principle the principals would have to get some principles to get rehired.

The Santa Barbara Unified School district - particularly the elementary school sector, is a joke. They try to represent to the public that they are accomplishing so much, but the reality is that most of the kids in all but the best elementary schools come from homes where they don't speak English and the idea of homework and studying is totally foreign to them. So the teachers have to attempt heroic work and fail miserably. Behavior is a big problem and disrespect for teachers and learning in general is a problem. Of course there are exceptions but my generalization is true. I've taught in the SB system and I know. On the other hand, the Goleta elementary school district has much better schools and learning environments. You want to know what the worst in SB is by far? Harding? Horrible environment. Revolving door of principals. And the association with UCSB? That is another joke.

More like, they can't find a principal to take to job openings at schools in SB. It's a thankless job that nobody wants.

Pay me $173K a year and I'll do it, but I will complain that I'm not being paid enough and that if I worked for a private firm I could make a lot more.

Just sayin.

Of course if a private firm produced products or services that perform as poorly as our students or schools (check or national rating), there would be mass and well-deserved layoffs.
