Road Access
updated: Jul 31, 2014, 7:57 PM

I need to drop a passenger at the train station at 11:30 AM tomorrow in the middle of parade chaos. It sounds like all of the roads will be closed. Any suggestions on access?

Take Castillo St.towards the beach and turn left on Montecito St. It's a straight shot down Monticetio St.

Take them to the Goleta one, soooooooooo easy!

I live close by and every year it's a mess.

The first comment is pretty good, the key is to get onto Montecito street. It's the only the street below Pedregosa that crosses State and stays open during the parade.

If the Goleta drop off seems a good alternative, best to research that. There are some trains that don't stop in Goleta...the Coast Starlight, for example.

Drop them off at the 7-11 on Castillo and Montecito. It's a 2 block walk to train station from there.

If the train stops at Goleta, it'd be the best alternative.

The southbound Castillo offramp will be closed beginning at 8 am, so plan accordingly.

Take the Garden street offramp from the freeway and get to the train station using Yanonila, Castillo street should be avoided.
There may be a barricade at Helena, but generally person at the barricade will let you pass if you say you're just dropping someone off, since the parade starts at noon, there shouldn't be a problem

Use Garden exit as W SCOTT said but rather than take Yanonali all the way to the station (State St will be barricaded) turn right on Santa Barbara St and left on Montecito to access train station from the back entrance.

Goleta is great, but you can't check baggage ... there are no services at that station. But I think you can buy a ticket on the train with Credit card!

A really cool bar is going to be opening up next to the motorcycle shop down there. That little white building... it will be called Mullaney's. Can't wait!

The online Amtrak schedule doesn't show all the trains that stop in Goleta. Only Pacific Surfliner Train 761.
