Out of Town Weekend Plans
updated: Jul 30, 2014, 11:45 AM

While many enjoy our annual Fiesta events, this week and weekend is also known for the mass exodus of locals who flee from confetti eggs and flamenco dancers. Who's planning on going where this weekend?

I just stay holed up in my apartment and order food delivery. I can't stand crowds and traffic- it all makes me anxious.

Planned to be at Merengue Music Festival in the Dominican Republic without remembering this is Fiesta weekend. Fiesta is fine, though I find Flamenco music intense, sad. Am into lightness these days.

Home.

Although a Mexican meal sounds good so can other Ehatters recommend a fantastic restaurant in the outer reaches of Santa Barbara or Goleta.

Home in the foothills except for a brief excursion to Our Lady of Guadalupe for tamales. Happy to have the town full of tourists, may they spend to their hearts' content.

On Parade Friday I may watch a DVR'd Judge Judy marathon whilst sipping a margarita, a mile away from the cascarones and screeching Fiestarinos. When I run out of Judge Judys, I'll switch to watching Family Guy episodes for at least the dozenth time.

Judge Judy, Family Guy and margaritas. How could Fiesta get any better?

Headed to Michigan! (Not on purpose. I actually forgot it was Fiesta until just recently.)

I'm working in my home and Santa Barleta. I do not like the name noleta. It doesn't reflect this beautiful area at all. I have never heard anyone who lives in this area call it that.

I've got an even better idea! I'll get the neighbors to come over and pee in my Jacuzzi, pour in a couple of bottles of Clorox, and pretend I'm soaking at the Bacara. Fiesta relaxation for no $$$ at all! And no one will yell at me for drinking margaritas while in the spa, like I'm sure they would at the real Bacara.

We WISH we could leave town. Our first choice for the big "Flee Fiesta" getaway would be somewhere with tropical fruit, deserted beaches and lots of peace and quiet.

No need to leave, just plan ahead to shop if you use upper De la Vina/State, and stay in. Party at home! I just can't handle the crowds anymore. I watch the parade on tv.

*Very* local travel: If you have to go to upper State, take Alamar to Foothill to avoid State and Mercado Norte.

Though I sure did want to eat downtown tomorrow, at Black Sheep, with a food loving friend in town for totally different reasons than Fiesta. (HA! NO WAY) Not sure where to go, but I'm thinking Paloma in Calle Real Center.

I'd love suggestions! I also asked Restaurant Guy.

I've never worked downtown except for lower Garden decades ago. There were no effects for me. I have no idea how employees and employers deal with Fiesta, though I'd be curious to hear stories.
I know many shut down. I barely remember seeing the parade from the Balboa building/dad's office long long ago.

If I usually grocery shop downtown, I'd take foothill to Hope or La Cumbre to go to Vons or Albertsons. Didn't mean to be so neighborhood-centric. ;-)

I work a few blocks from Downtown. I enjoy walking over to the el mercado and enjoying all the festivity there. Good place to grab lunch and enjoy the on stage entertainment.

I plan my vacation so I can leave during Fiesta EVERY year... going on 20+ years of that now! :-) We are going to San Francisco this year. I just hate the crowds, the cops and the mess of Fiesta. It's gotten so ugly over the years....
