Nurse Recruiters
updated: Jul 27, 2014, 7:15 PM

My wife is moving to Santa Barbara and is looking for another job as an ER nurse. She applied to Cottage Hospital openings but hasn't heard back in a couple weeks. She has years of ER experience and multiple certifications. Does anyone know of nurse recruiters or other ways to find jobs in nursing in the area?

No recruiters needed at cottage they have plenty of people wanting to work there. Just be persistent and not picky about the department

We had our share of real "doozies" when dealing with CH nursing staff during family illnesses. Some stories were unbelievable....Scared the heck out of us ! Hope your wife has excellent skills and gets hired !

Try to contact a human! Email Cottage and anywhere she applies, and/or try to call. Send a written letter. There is so much reliance on computer scanning and evaluation of resumes and apps that it can be hard to get noticed or make contact. I agree that Cottage would want to hear from her. But I'm obviously really old school.

Maybe study up on the new ways of personnel and resubmit the resume?

ER? Pursue Cottage. They are ALWAYS hiring nurses, have many (too many) travelers. Keep contacting them.

Good luck!

Some non-emergency ideas:
Cottage physical rehab institute if that fits with her skills and desires.

Sansum Clinic.

Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care. (2 totally different branches of the same organization) http://www.vnhcsb.org/

I get alerts from Beyond.com. A lot of them are from temp staffers so she may want to check them out and take a short term "travel" assignment in Santa Barbara and perhaps get a full time gig down the road. Cottage uses a lot of travelers during high season, and SB is obviously a desirable location. We do know a couple who both took a assignment about a year ago and ended up moving here permanently. It's one option to consider.

Sign up as a travelor. Once you're in they'll likely extend your assignment a few times and then if she fits in they offer her a job and buy out her contract with the company.

Definitely have her sign up as a traveler. She will get good pay and get her foot in the door. I did it for years. It's how I ended up I California!!! American mobile health care and Crosscountry was who I used but that was 10 years ago!!!

@45 Did you inform the hospital regarding the issues you had with the nurses? There are some excellent nurses who really care about each patient and then there are some who are just there because it's a job.

Nursing is a profession that requires not only skill but compassion, you are dealing with very ill people that are oftentimes very delicate and vulnerable and a good or bad nurse can be the difference between recovery or even death.

Report the "bad" nurses, but also let the hospital know the ones you appreciated that did a good job.
