Eastern Sierra Magic
updated: Jul 27, 2014, 1:34 PM

By Aquaholic

I just returned from a solo 4 day trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada range. My intent was to do some hiking, photography, exploring, and happily, I accomplished all three and then some! Here is an image I took at Mono Lake last Monday evening, just as the last of the monsoonal moisture was clearing the area. Mono lake is one of the oldest in North America, they reckon at least a million years old. It has an interesting history, and is just a beautiful and magical place to visit.

I also did some "first time" hikes in the high country adjacent to Yosemite NP. One in particular was a favorite, a hike into the 20 Lakes Basin, Hoover Wilderness. I took an early morning water taxi across Saddlebag lake to the trail head. The elevation starts at over 10,000 ft. There is a five mile loop that visits a lot of beautiful lakes, but the site of North Peak (el. 12,242) reflected in a small pond was hard to top.
