July 27, 2014 - Best Small City in America

In case you haven't heard, Santa Barbara was voted one of the top 10 best small cities in America. We already knew that, but it's nice to know others think so too. Our little blue town by the big blue sea has a lot to offer tourists and residents. For one thing, our weather is quite nice and mild throughout the seasons. Seasons... what are those? The Dedicated Staff isn't exactly sure but we hear it's when the temperature will drop or rise drastically throughout the year and can cause massive amounts of moisture to fall from the sky. It sounds interesting, but we have yet to experience it fully. Besides our impeccable weather, there is a lot to do here! We have the mountains behind us and the ocean in front of us, with tons of activities located in between. Some edhatters have expressed frustration with the amount of tourists that are drawn to our small town, but it's ok to share the wealth every now and again. California was the state with the most votes on this top 10 list. Santa Barbara came in at #6, Napa came in at #3, and Carmel-by-the-Sea came in at #2. Interesting, all three of those locations have a booming wine industry filled with vineyards. Now we get it!

Our Dog of the Week is sweet girl Tegan who suffered a horrible accident and is fighting for her life. Our Cat of the Week is Pumpernickel, a feisty feline who only drinks Fiji water, or so she thinks. Our Non-Profit of the Week is A Different Point of View who teaches youth how to fly airplanes. Lauren is on a sugar kick and loaded up on cinnamon rolls at Recipes Bakery, Rosie went foreign and reviewed a French Film, and edhat subscribers discuss the historical significance of La Cumbe Lookout.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

HISTORY: A subscriber shares photos from La Cumbre Lookout in 1940.

EDBIT: Santa Barbara was recently voted one of the 10 Best Small Cities in America.

I don't get many opportunities to see newly released foreign films so was excited to go watch a French film entitled Joséphine last week.

Lauren: To cure her sweet tooth, Lauren visited Recipe's Bakery for their signature cinnamon rolls.

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: A Different Point of View's mission is to engage, inspire and transform youth who are in danger of losing their way by teaching them to fly.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Pumpernickel, a sassy Persian whose diva attitude cannot be rivaled.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet Tegan, a loving pet who is currently fighting for her life and needs your help.

How well do you know Old Spanish Days in Santa Barbara? Answer the trivia question correctly and you could win a prize!
