I saw a bright green light fall from the sky in the southern direction at 11:13 pm. Did anyone else see this?

Did any one know what the green falling light in the sky was over Goleta at about 11:10 pm?

Didn't see that one, but saw a long shooting star with a big tail on Sunday evening about dusk, heading south. It was awesome.

Perhaps this has to do with the upcoming Perseid meteor shower event? Peaking Aug 10-13.

Last week we found one of the lanterns that use candles, a huge green one in our yard. They should be illegal, like in Catalina.

There was a post yesterday about 10 floating lights rising from downtown SB at 9pm. You probably saw one of the lanterns dropping after it ran out of steam. I hope it didn't hit anyone.

How about some one with a drone, mount a little water cannon on it and have fun shooting them out. Video it and post it on utube or a link to Visit SB and show people what will happen when they are dumb enough to do something like that in the middle of a tinder box. I really hope it is ignorant students with no clue, but.... DuuUuuuUuumb.
Maybe UCSB and SBCC could post something about how dangerous those things are around here.

I DID see that around 11:13pm and I was wondering what it was. It looked too bright to be a shooting star. It was pretty though.

The next time you see a meteor (aka "fireball") please go the American Meteor Society's website and report it in their fireball log. Use Google search to find the link.

...stepped outside at about 12:30 last night to get the cat in, and WOW the Milky Way was dense and bright. Get outside after dark during these clear air conditions to catch it--what a TREAT!!

There is a difference between "shooting stars" and meteors or meteorites. The green light is a marker for the metals burning up in the meteorite as it enters the oxygen rich atmosphere earth at high speed.
