Destruction on Cliff Drive
updated: Jul 19, 2014, 6:30 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

Does anyone know what happened on Cliff Drive near Alan Road across from Arroyo Burro Beach parking lot last weekend? Looks like something huge collided with the bridge and tree. I think it happened maybe Friday or Saturday night.

I think that was a hit and run drunk driver..

in the DUI thread from Saturday 7/12, someone said it had happened earlier.

"Who demolished the bridge over Arroyo Burro creek? Same incident or separate mishap?"

"Arroyo Creek bridge was taken out between Thursday and Friday."

not arguing with you Roger. I guess there were several DUI hit and runs. you like how I headed off any objection? :-) You reported it anyways, we know that. I'm curious about the bridge.

It was not a hit and run. This happened on July 11th at about 1:30am. It was a truck with a flatbed trailer on the back that had construction equipment on the back. The driver came down the hill and didn't realize that there was a stop, hit the brakes hard, and his load shifted. The driver was indeed drunk and arrested. I was extremely surprised when I didn't see this on Edhat that night...but not surprised that KEYT can't seem to cover something so significant.

Please tell me they are going to make the drunk driver pay for a new one.

By Friday morning 8:30 the vehicles were all gone. Amazing thing was that there were no tire skid/brake marks any where near the bridge or downed tree, but there were gouge marks from something very heavy all the way from the bridge to the telephone pole and it's guy-wire across Alan Rd. The pole and cable had scrapes, so he just kissed them and stopped. He just missed going over the bridge or having the pole come down on top of him. Pretty bridge and we get to pay for it's repair.

I imagine the insurance companies for whoever hired the driver will have to fork over some $$
