Frankie Mecono kettlebells and more, 7 am and noon on Calle Cesar Chavez. Great trainer, private and group class, reasonable. He's really good at helping with injuries as well as regular training, at your level.

The Y has a FIT class early a.m., check out their schedule at http://www.ciymca.org/santabarbara/html/programschedules.
html; you do have to join the Y, but they have some kind of financial arrangement for low-income folks. Good luck.

179P - that is true. But you run the a very high risk, especially today, of being sent somewhere to fight and maybe die or get maimed on the basis of lies, deceptions and fabrications, on the pretense of "fighting for America". What a waste of all that fitness....

Killer B Fitness is wonderful! Great group, amazing workout. Off Turnpike and Hollister. They have a really good deal for an intro rate.

I second the recommendation of CrossFit Pacific Coast. I have been working out at 6 AM there for five years.

At Killer B, if you can't keep-up during a fitness class. The instructors will point it out to everyone in the class and make that person feel really uncomfortable. I witnessed this plenty of times during classes.

I bet all of these are excellent choices- SB has such a fantastic collection of trainers who aren't flakey LA-types or just trying to bilk the client. They're down to earth, really into their own fitness and getting their clients fit.

I've personally worked with Prevail Conditioning on Haley and find them to be top notch. I've done various yoga classes- all pretty much great, even a recent aerial yoga class downtown.

For am early am workout that at the same time teaches you state of the art self defense, it's really tough to beat the 6:30am Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes and kickboxing classes at Paragon on Salipuedes St. And it is a great value- a 1.5hr class- go unlimted times per month, etc.

I just think if you're going to spend an hour or more working out to burn calories and build muscle, why not also engage the mind and learn self defense that could come in handy? Yoga similarly teaches you skills for life, but doesn't quite burn the same cals. You should see the average person walking around at this gym.

SB Krav Maga has a wonderful boot camp. 6:15-7:00 am. Pedro is the best instructor in town. It's the most fun I have ever had while working out. First class is free so you should try it.
