Sewer Smell
updated: Jul 19, 2014, 11:09 AM

By Edhat Subscriber

This morning it smelled bad over by State and Las Positas. Like a busted sewer line. Definitely a sewer type aroma. I've also heard from others as far as Goleta that could smell it as of 9pm last night. Anybody else?

Did the Goleta Planning Commission have an unannounced Friday meeting?

The sewer smell was very strong this morning at our house in Mission Canyon. Apparently a very large area is affected. Where is it coming from??

Yes definitely the State and Alamar area this morning. Have no clue as to why tho...

The stinky aroma of the Bird Refuge yesterday was really unpleasant too.

It was really bad on the Mesa last night around 11:00pm
Thought it was my Cat then realized it was coming from outside!

It was kind of noxious on the upper Westside at around 11 pm, too.

Call the city. They work weekends for infrastructure problems.

SB City Public Works:
For Emergency after hours or weekend water or sewer line
breaks or to report street flooding; call (805) 963-4286

Could be the dried up lake at la Cumbre country club

It's not a "dead" smell, it's an "okay, who did it?" smell.

I bet it's the bird refuge, as 030P mentioned. That thing gets rank!

Well I don't live near any of you so it wasn't me..The Turd refuge I really would not doubt if there was a floater or two over there. From the Cabrillo almost all the way around are campers some of which travel thru East Beach Condos and El Escorto for short cuts they should post fencing tall fencing all the way around those condos..It's dangerous

I went for a 40 mile bike ride this AM, and it's really bad in Goleta near Coscto/Ocean Meadows. I thought construction workers broke a sewage line. I live near state/LP and no smell here.

Thank goodness the OP posted this question. My poor husband has had to listen to me complaining about the smell since last night. I whined so much that he finally went outside and checked the backflow valve and surrounding area to see if we were having a problem in the yard. Then we checked the bushes near the bedroom windows because I thought maybe something died and was rotting in there. It is overwhelming at times.

It still stinks here near Turnpike and La Gama. What could be so widespread to be causing all this odor? It is horrible!!!

Gas leaks and sewer gas not a good combination..

So weird. So glad to read this posting. I am on the Mesa and had the smell in my bathroom last night. I also looked around the bathroom for a "problem". My bathroom window was open but I did not think the smell could be from outside.

At the risk of sounding like my mother, seems a little ominous that on the same day we have a story about the gas/tar seep changing and stories of people all over the area smelling something nasty (did it smell sulfurous?). Maybe the Big One (earthquake, for those of you who are new to California) is coming.

@168P: It smelled fartine. That's pretty much the only way to describe it. It wasn't a natural gas smell at all. This isn't the first time it's happened, either. Early one morning a couple of years ago, the smell was REALLY bad. I called the city Fire Department just to ask if anyone else had noticed it. The next thing I knew, there were two or three fire trucks crowded down our cul de sac. The firefighters all agreed that there was indeed some kind of super stench, but they couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Then, as suddenly as it had come, the smell just kind of wafted away. We now get it maybe a couple of times a year.

Rex, you don't still smell it? It reeks out here near Tunpike still! It is really gross! I hope someone can shed some light on this soon! Yuck!

BULLSEYEB: No, the upper Westside has smelled of lilacs and frankincense all day. Okay, so maybe I exaggerate a little, but at least we don't have the aroma of freshly cut cheese any more, like we did last night.
